Chase on the Death Star
At long last!  My second offering in my Star Wars calendar!

You can find January here:…
and you can find the original 1979 version of this drawing here:…

A long time ago, when I was a wee nerfherder, I took it upon myself to make my very own Star Wars calendar.  Not sure why -- there must have been calendars available at that time.  Perhaps I couldn't afford it.  Or perhaps I just wanted to draw my favourite scenes from my favourite movie.  Home copies were still years in the future and I had to do something to fill the void while I waited for the next movie to come out!

Anyway, I did.  And then as I grew up it was lost to the ages.  Until recently!  I stumbled across the old drawings and had a good laugh.  Some of them were drawings that were recreations of comic book panels.  Some were clearly based on the stiff-looking poses of the action figures of the time.  And a couple appear to have been honest attempts to draw from photos.

But I started thinking.  I've grown a little as an artist -- what if I sat down and did these drawings again?  It seemed like a fun way to get to revisit a world that had a huge impact on me as a kid, and possibly to get to be a kid again for a little bit (though it's debatable that I've ever left childhood behind).

And so I present to you, dear viewer, the first of what is intended to be twelve new drawings that may be downloaded and printed out and assembled into your own calendar.  You'll have to write in your own dates, though -- I've left those off so that the images can be used again and again regardless of what year it is.

I welcome all comments.  If you're interested in seeing the original drawing that this was inspired by, look here:…

(I don't imagine I need to point this out, but Star Wars is owned by Disney.)
In time for Remembrance Day, I invite you to consider this short piece of prose, written by my daughter, of whom I am quite fond and proud:…

Peace to all.

Haha!  I've thought more than once about doing an updated version of some of those guys.  Alas, I no longer know where the originals are.  Maybe some day, though...

How are you?

How are you so good at art?

Well, thanks for the compliment.  I guess the easy answer is:  I draw all the time.  And have since I was a kid.

When you love something and you do it a lot, you eventually get good at it.  Art, music, sports... whatever!  If you enjoy it, just keep doing it!

Well, consider yourself one step closer to that magic number of 3,000! Your friendly, but definitely not in the neighbourhood, ol' pal, Dix-in-Flux.

BTW, I may be approaching you some time in the new year about a gig I'm working on. Be in touch.
