A long time ago, when I was a wee nerfherder, I took it upon myself to make my very own Star Wars calendar. Not sure why -- there must have been calendars available at that time. Perhaps I couldn't afford it. Or perhaps I just wanted to draw my favourite scenes from my favourite movie. Home copies were still years in the future and I had to do something to fill the void while I waited for the next movie to come out!
Anyway, I did. And then as I grew up it was lost to the ages. Until recently! I stumbled across the old drawings and had a good laugh. Some of them were drawings that were recreations of comic book panels. Some were clearly based on the stiff-looking poses of the action figures of the time. And a couple appear to have been honest attempts to draw from photos.
But I started thinking. I've grown a little as an artist -- what if I sat down and did these drawings again? It seemed like a fun way to get to revisit a world that had a huge impact on me as a kid, and possibly to get to be a kid again for a little bit (though it's debatable that I've ever left childhood behind).
And so I present to you, dear viewer, the first of what is intended to be twelve new drawings that may be downloaded and printed out and assembled into your own calendar. You'll have to write in your own dates, though -- I've left those off so that the images can be used again and again regardless of what year it is.
I welcome all comments. If you're interested in seeing the original drawing that this was inspired by, look here: 66lightning.deviantart.com/art…
(I don't imagine I need to point this out, but Star Wars is owned by Disney.)
